Herga at The Castle is a folk and acoustic music evening, with roots going back to 1963. We meet every Monday night at The Castle – a Fuller’s public house atop old Harrow on the Hill with its panoramic views across London.

IMPORTANT

This coming Monday 2nd October 2023 we are not at The Castle

Instead we will be meeting at The Trinity bar
378-380 Station Road, Harrow, United Kingdom. HA1 2DE

There is a downstairs bar with 30+seats, and an upstairs room with capacity for 200. We’re not sure which we will use, will decide when we arrive on the night.

If you’re travelling by train, it’s much nearer to Harrow On The Hill Station.

If you’re travelling by car there is road-side parking along Peterborough road (see aerial photo below) if all those spaces are full you can continue on across the Kenton Road (still on Peterborough Road,) and there is roadside parking all along there all the way up to the top of the Hill!

Coming Guest Nights…….see our What’s On Page for full listing, including themed open evenings

Tickets
Except for specific special evenings, we don’t sell tickets in advance.
However, if you are travelling a long way for a particular event drop an e-mail to

Monday 2nd October – Guest Evening – Steve Suffet, with Peter and Maggie Eiseman-Renyard (£8)

Born in 1947, Steve Suffet is best described as an old fashioned folksinger. His repertoire is a mixture of railroad songs, trucker songs, coal miner songs, cowboy songs, union songs, old time ballads, blues, ragtime, Gospel, bluegrass, topical-political songs, Woody Guthrie songs, Irish songs, and whatever else tickles his fancy. He takes songs from whatever sources he wishes and then he sings them his own way, maybe rewriting the lyrics on the spot, flatting a 7th, or changing a major key to a mountain modal.

Maggie & Pete Eiseman-Renyard, 2/5 of the band Dorten Yonder, sometimes perform as Double Barrel.  Drawn to traditional U.K., U.S. and Celtic folk music, then to each other, from opposite edges of the Atlantic (Long Island, N.Y and Guernsey, C.I.), they play and sing old songs and tunes, younger ones and some which Maggie writes.

Monday 30th October – Guest Evening – Seb Stone (£10)

Seb Stone won the Future of Folk award at the Bromyard Folk Festival last year. He has a remarkable singing voice, a good collection of songs and is a polished player of the Uilleann Pipes.
Seb Stone delivered an exemplary set – such an accomplished ballad singer and musician. Every word clear and the storytelling in the ballads was perfect”

Monday 27 November – Guest Evening – Alice and David Wylde (£10)

Alice Wylde was born and raised as one of eight children in the heart of West Virginia, the only state completely within the Appalachian Mountain range. She spent 43 years of her life living up the same holler, until she made the move to England. With a collection of songs all learnt from her immediate and wider family and a distinct singing style, and a lovely personality, we are guaranteed an entrancing evening.
